Handy Manny: A Racist Brainwasher for the Next Generation of Young Americans?

This morning, I went downstairs to see my brother watching “Handy Manny” on the television. The title opening played and I saw a Hispanic handyman with a stubborn middle-aged Caucasian male interacting. I was shocked to see these stereotypes. While they may or may not have been intended, yes, Handy Manny does include stereotypes. Watch the intro and you’ll see what I mean:

Handy Manny Paints this picture:

Here in America, the Hispanic and other minorities are the nice, kind workers and serve the rich, white people. (Handy Manny) Here in America, the Americans are stuck up snobs that think they’re better than the working classes and think they can do everything on their own. (Mr. Lopart) These are absolutely HORRIBLE cliches of America.

It’s sickening. Disney needs to look for subliminal messages before they post or publish their TV shows; they’re preparing a new wave of racism. Children do not notice these subliminal messages and are almost always pulled into this racism. (Think Nazi!)

  1. Really? I never saw it that way when I watched it with my younger sister, but when you point it out, it’s all (Somewhat) true.

Heh, better not tell little Jesse!

  2. Think about this…as racist as “Handy Manny” may seem, Disney’s probably not as racist as you think. Whether it be intentional or not, they pride themselves on the world-famous image of a black mouse. Thinking of only the main characters, this black mouse has only one white friend…a white duck with a horrible speech impediment. Just a little something to think about :)

    • Disney probably wanted all racial groups to be in on it. With the release of “The Princess and The Frog”, they showed that everyone is equal. This was one step into it, showing that it’s not all about the All-Americans.

  3. If you can be honest with yourself and take an objective look at the cartoon you will find the racial overtones very clearly, unfortunately. It’s a very neat little cartoon that has a good them as far as Handy Manny going out to fix things and help people. The problem is that Mr. Lopart is the only white character that is a bumbling idiot so to speak. Not to mention what I saw just this morning on the show. Two skateboarders with all the gear come skating up. Handy Manny had built a skateboard ramp. Manny asks if they know what it is and they both (the skaters) are clueless as to what the ramp is……not to mention the skaters voices portrayed them as unintelligent. One skater answers that it is a rocket launcher. Then Manny tells them what it is and then they “get what it is”. As if by some super Handy Manny induced knowledge from his presence, the dumb skaters are using the ramp like pros. Kinda interesting since they obviously had never even seen a ramp until Handy Manny constructed one.
Just some thoughts but the tone of the show is so low key that I feel that children can be misled subconsciously…This is very unfortunate when so many good people are trying to dissolve racism in our communities. I encourage parents to watch this cartoon closely….then chose for yourself if your child should really watch it.

    • Kelly is a female. In this country; therefore untouchable, as well as all of the other minorities. They have also made Mr. Lopart a momma’s boy as well as being the “typical stuck up, arrogant white MALE.”

  4. I watch this show every morning with my daughter. You state that Mr. Lopart is the only white character, but you ate forgetting about the Kelly at the hardware store.

  5. Bob the builder is a white contractor with his own construction company, trucks, and earth movers. Handy Manny is day labor with his power tools that go “rrreally fast”. Nuph said

  6. I saw a episode this morning about Mr. Lopart and how he needs Manny to fix a water leak. If you watch closely you would notice this show is very racist. Mr. Lopart the whole show is exploiting Manny to do a bunch of stuff that is not even repair related. In the end of that show Manny eats a peanut butter and salsa sandwich, who the hell eats that crap. Why couldn’t it be doctor Manny or something like that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney made a show called maid maria.

    • This show is racist, and people need to write to the advertisers and get it off the air. And you’re right about why not Dr. Manny, or astronaut Manny? The media is racist as h*ll.

  7. I am White and live in the uk and have been coming and going to Orange County Cal for 25 years….
I have an ok feel for the place after all this time, and basicaly what I see is all the Mexican and hispanics cleaning up after everyone….. thank god for them because without them California would still be a desert! They remind me of the Irish over in the uk (many years ago) both in work ethic and as people….
I have watched this with my children, and the first thing I thought was “wow social conditioning sure dose start young”
Yep it is basically saying if you are Hispanic your glass ceiling is working with your hands, which I will add is a proud and nobal art, I myself was an electrician for a number of years, but it sets subliminal limitations.

    • There are many poor Hispanic immigrants who work as laborers or in service jobs, but there are also Hispanic doctors, lawyers, astronauts and businessmen. For instance, Dr. Raul Ruiz a Harvard educated doctor was just elected to Congress from Palm Springs. Astronaut Jose Hernandez ran for Congress from Central CA (and lost). Both of these men are the children of farm workers. Arte Moreno owns the Los Angeles Angels (of Anaheim) baseball team. Thank God, they didn’t grow up watching racist crap like Handy Manny!

  8. The main cartoon character of the show has a valuable skill that he uses to fix problems around the town. And because he’s a Latino that makes it a racist cartoon?! I guess they should have told the guy that does his voice (Wilmer Valderrama), “Sorry, but we prefer that a white person be the main character in this show.” Yeah, that wouldn’t be racist at all.

I know you must enjoy the smell of your own s___ but try pulling your head out of your politically correct ass for a few second. You’re ignorance and stupidity is blinding.

    • I almost forgot. Manny uses Spanish words during the show to describe what he’s doing and help children understand the language. But since he’s an underpaid Latino day laborer that must be racist too. Maybe Disney should change the title of the show to, “Manny Hanny on Wall Street”, and he could scam greedy stupid white folks outta their savings.

      !Soy perra Rica!

  9. Wow, really? It’s a kids tv show that’s teaching spanish! It’s also showing that hard work can fix problems. If you want to read that deep into a KIDS show be my guest, but really? I watched it and I hate racists.

  10. Might sound weird to you guys, but when I first saw the show I didn’t think it was racist at all… Now that I’ve read the article in some ways it seems so, but at the same time you have to remember that no matter who it was in the role there would always be something wrong. A black guy would be racist to a bunch of idiots, and 1950′s idiots would think a woman version of manny would promote lesbianism or something around those lines. I personally think disney was trying to pull off another Bob the Builder with a bit of Dora the Explorer added in, lol. ^_^ I dunno, but my little brother enjoys the show and he’s never said anything or done anything racist to my knowledge, and I’m sure it’ll stay that way.
